Farglory Land Expands Carbon Emissions Inventory to Construction Sites to Follow the Pathway to Net-Zero Emissions

Did you know that the government requires all TWSE/TPEx-listed companies to complete a GHG emission inventory (hereinafter “GHG inventory” or “carbon inventory”) by 2027? However, several factors greatly affect the authenticity of the GHG inventory results, such as whether the scope of the inventory is fully defined and whether all categories are counted.

Besides one-stop services, the completion of GHG inventory is relatively important

Farglory Land initiated its first GHG inventory for its office areas back in 2021. However, in the construction industry, most carbon emissions do not come from offices, but from the processes of electricity consumption, bulk material procurement, and disposal of construction waste at each construction site. Therefore, despite the complexity of the carbon inventory at construction sites, Farglory Land, in conjunction with its subsidiary Farglory Construction, conducted a thorough inventory of GHG emission sources in the scope 1–4 categories within its operational boundaries and obtained ISO 14064-1:2018 GHG Inventory external certification to ensure the accuracy and credibility of the data.

Identifying carbon hotspots and striving for reductions

The inventory results revealed that Farglory Land’s carbon emissions mainly come from the indirect carbon footprint of bulk materials procurement and construction waste disposal. In this regard, Farglory Land has actively launched a number of carbon reduction initiatives. Take the new Farglory project in Taichung, “Gallery of Art”, for instance; in the concrete ratio for the main building structure, a portion of the cement has been replaced with blast furnace slag, which has been awarded the qualified BCFd (Building Carbon Footprint) Certification. Moreover, Farglory has committed to the research and development of waste recycling technology to turn construction site waste into building materials and furniture, which were widely used in the renovation of the headquarters office building.

Inventory is only the first step in carbon reduction. Farglory Land will continually invest efforts in the construction of green buildings and low carbon buildings, promote building lifecycle carbon inventory, and build a database of building energy consumption EUI values. This way, carbon reduction is not limited to the construction process alone, but extends to the entire lifecycle of the building, thereby fulfilling the construction industry’s responsibility for emissions reduction in the high-carbon era.
