Farglory Land’s “Site Project” Gives Construction Waste a New Home

With the new workplace of Farglory International Building as an experimental site, Farglory’s Site Project collaborated with META Design to give construction waste a more exciting life. The leftover bits and pieces may seem useless, but with the techniques and creative ideas of the project staff, these pieces transformed into furniture, lighting fixtures, and installations in the workplace common area. Once unapproachable, construction site waste has now been transformed into elegant furniture that is used on a daily basis, the exquisiteness of which is something that should be savored by everyone.

Making “development” in the construction industry less synonymous with looting

The approximately 70 million metric tons of construction waste produced in Taiwan every year has made Farglory Land determined to “develop” this mine by looking at the waste to be discarded in a different light. Inheriting the company’s original FG Next spirit of “pursuing sustainable and low-carbon buildings that meet human needs”, we collected reusable construction waste from construction sites, produced designs, and eventually turned the waste into objects needed by Farglory Land’s headquarters office. This restores the original meaning of the word “development”—creating unlimited possibilities in today’s resource-constrained world.

“Material Reuse” creates a connection through space and time

We have all become accustomed to the spaces made up of different kinds of buildings, which humans travel through to form their own unique stories. However, the “construction site” that exists prior to the completion of a building project is not something many people can relate to. Farglory’s Site Project not only focuses on the reuse of resources, but also hopes to change the general public’s and even the construction workers’ preconceived notions of the “construction industry” as being dangerous, dirty, and rough by personally using the furniture.

The high-quality lampshades made from construction site fall protection nets and the comfortable chairs made from irregular pieces of leftover wooden have changed the public’s viewpoints. Many of our construction site colleagues even exclaimed, “I never knew that construction waste could be turned into something so beautiful!” They felt a sense of pride like never before. Furthermore, now they are more willing to cautiously dismantle a building in order to keep the construction waste as intact as possible; they all know that these waste materials can be put to even better use later on.
