Farglory Foundation’s Housing Repair Service: Being the Light of Life in Remote Areas

Since 2016, Farglory Foundation has been utilizing its core competence in the construction industry to provide housing repair services. Several volunteer groups comprising colleagues are called on to visit every corner of Taiwan including the remote mountainous areas, outlying islands, and the eastern part, with an aim to make the facilities and spaces in remote areas safer and more functional.

Farglory goes to places inaccessible to social welfare authorities

As the project expands, we’ve noticed that many underprivileged groups are forced to endure construction related issues for years due to the lack of resources—with problems including water leakage, roof collapse, broken windows, insufficiently concealed toilets and baths, and even three generations squeezed into the same room. These people depend on the existing social welfare system but often fail to get proper assistance, particularly in areas that lack resources, such as remote areas, mountainous areas, and outlying islands.

Due to geographical constraints, very few professional construction workers are willing to accept positions in these areas to provide services, thus making the simple wish of having a home to shelter from the wind and rain an extravagant demand. In addition to private residences, infrastructure in remote areas also faces the same problems. When the hardware equipment fails to keep up with progress, problems such as the gap in digital skills and the difficulty in developing diversified skills ensue.

Building a safe fortress for remote areas

The Foundation will not overlook any possible area in need of assistance. Wherever there is a need, Farglory will be there to help. Each of our colleagues fully utilizes Farglory’s acclaimed expertise and spirit of professional dedication to assist in the repair and maintenance of homes and schools in remote areas. Additionally, we carry out safety education programs to educate residents and children on how to maintain their buildings on a daily basis. This way, construction is no longer an industry reserved for the city, but rather, the strength and hope of every corner in Taiwan. In the future, we will continue to turn our ideas into actions as we aim to benefit more people, help more families, and have a powerful social impact.

“How long has it been since we have done something purely to help others, regardless of the cost?”
“Perhaps truly understanding the act of pure giving is our greatest reward.” Farglory Volunteer Group
