Helping Whales and Dolphins Get Home: Farglory Ocean Park Trains Taiwan’s “Ocean Helpers”

One afternoon in Hualien, a baby sperm whale lost its way and beached along the coast. It struggled valiantly, and we did everything in our power to help. But due to severe weather and limited equipment, we were finally unable to return it to the sea. That moment of sorrow only strengthened Farglory Ocean Park’s commitment to transformation.

Behind the joyful parades and exhilarating rides, we never forget: We were born from the sea, and we stand beside the Hualien coast. Out of gratitude, we have chosen to protect the ocean and give back to our local community.

Our mission: From theme park to conservation base

With whale and dolphin performances officially ending in 2026, Farglory Ocean Park will enter a bold new chapter. The current marine theater will be converted into eastern Taiwan’s first and only whale and dolphin rescue center. Existing feeding facilities, veterinary expertise, and resources will be fully redirected toward marine conservation and cetacean rescue.

Our new brand ethos, “Co-Enjoy, Co-Educate, Co-Exist”, invites every guest who visits the Park to not only be entertained, but to leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation for the ocean.

The Ocean Helpers Program: Turning conservation into action

In collaboration with the Hualien Iiha Formosa Association, Turumoan Whale Watching Company, and the Farglory Foundation, Farglory Ocean Park launched the Ocean Helpers Training Program. More than 40 individuals were selected from many walks of life: Graduate students, engineers, teachers, artists, and more. The program begins with emotional connection and progresses through three core practical courses:
  • Dolphin health management and animal welfare
  • Conservation practices at marine parks
  • Whale and dolphin stranding rescue techniques
This initiative transforms conservation from a mere ideal into a concrete, actionable skillset.

One Whale at a Time — Reviving Ocean Life

The sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) is the largest toothed whale on Earth, known for its deep-diving habits and rarely seen near the shore. The baby that stranded last year was nature’s wake-up call – a call to responsibility. We hope that, through our park’s transformation and training, every disoriented cetacean will find a way back to the sea, and every stranded life will have a chance to come home.

Farglory Group Sustainability Intention: Xpantion > Social Responsibility

Humanism should not only be internal, but also external to demonstrate corporate social responsibility. Farglory Group actively participates in public welfare activities by investing resources and manpower to support society. Additionally, a certain proportion of “impact investing” is included in our investments, in the hope of bringing more wonderful experiences into society through the revitalization of resources.
