“The tougher the challenge, the clearer a company’s determination and unity shine through.” When the devastating Hualien earthquake struck without warning last year, it damaged parts of the infrastructure – but it could not shake the cohesion of Farglory Ocean Park and Farglory Hotel. Among the four key post-quake commitments announced by Ocean Park, the pledge to “Ensure Safe Resettlement and Protect Employee Rights” has since rippled through the organization, reinforcing the Recreation & Hospitality business sector’s unwavering care for its employees.
Caring about employee happiness puts us ahead of the leisure industry pack
In a service industry era where cutting labor costs is often viewed as a path to better margins, Farglory Recreation & Hospitality chose to go against the flow. Even amid a temporary halt in operations following the earthquake, the company remained firm: No layoffs, no pay cuts. Employee benefits such as wellness programs, staff outings, and training continued uninterrupted. Through interviews with senior staff, Farglory Ocean Park shared heartfelt stories, treating each employee as an individual. This showed respect for their voices, and for how they find meaning through work.As Chairman Wu Hsiang-Sheng emphasized, “At Farglory, we believe that true corporate value is not just reflected in financial performance, but in how we treat one another. Even in the face of natural disasters and market volatility, we continue to invest in talent development and employee well-being. This is a core belief we will never abandon.”

Out of more than 600 employees at Farglory Ocean Park and Farglory Hotel, nearly 40% have been with the company for more than a decade. This is an exceptional retention rate in the tourism and hospitality industry, and reflects how much Farglory cares for our employees. In 2025, Farglory Ocean Park and Farglory Hotel were honored with the Gold Award for Happy Enterprises and recognized by Hualien County as Exemplary Friendly Workplaces – a further testament to the success of their employee-first philosophy. As senior hotel staff member Chang Chun-Hsien reflected, “Through the pandemic, earthquakes, typhoons – all these challenges and difficulties – we’ve stood together like a family. This support allows me to give my all at work, without worry, and to enjoy precious time with my family during our frequent Family Day events. That respect for work-life balance means I can enjoy the pleasures of work and also the joy of life.”This commitment to employees is not only a responsibility to the team, but also a show of care for customers.
